I’ve been biding my time waiting for the right week to write about the ‘national treasure’ that is Cheryl Cole - or should I say Mrs Cheryl Fernandez-Versini - and what better time than the aftermath of the X-Factor final.

It has been a rollercoaster 10 weeks for X Factor fans across the nation, culminating in Ben Haenow taking home the winner’s title, but I think all fashion-followers can agree that the most exciting moment of each live show has been anticipating what gorgeous ensemble Cheryl is going to take to the stage in. And my goodness, she did not disappoint this year on her epic return to the show, and even though her outfits divided opinion (see green Lanvin dress above left, which I happen to love, but provoked the other judges to refer to her as ‘Kermit the Frog’), it certainly can’t be argued that she has the ability to take anyone’s breath away, not least thanks to her million-dollar smile which has made the UK fall in love with her time and time again, dating all the way back to her humble beginnings as a young Geordie girl with a dream on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002.

From this moment onwards the Girls Aloud phenomena was born and I think it would be an understatement to say that their (especially Cheryl’s) style has developed leaps and bounds over the years making them one of the most sought-after girl bands of the past decade…

The ever-increasing popularity of Girls Aloud across the UK also marked the rise of Cheryl Cole ‘the superstar’, with Cheryl’s unique individual beauty and star quality giving her not only the opportunity to establish her own solo pop career in 2009, but also the chance to launch her own perfume, become a judge on the X Factor and also secure an annually renewed contract with L’Oreal. And style-wise her followers have never looked back with each of her outfits blowing the next one out of the water.

But perhaps the main reason Cheryl has been deemed the nation’s sweetheart is her unique ability to bounce back, even after life has handed her some of the worst experiences imaginable (a cheating husband Ashley Cole, a near death-inducing bout of malaria, being sacked from X Factor USA) all in the unforgiving glare of the media. And after a string of further relationships (post Ashley Cole), Cheryl announced earlier this year that she had settled down – after a mere few months – to marry the French entrepreneur Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini. This might sound way too soon and maybe it would be in the real world but who are we to judge after all that our Cheryl’s been through? We wish you all the best Chezza; let’s hope you prove the cynics wrong as you have done so many times in the past!

Get the Look

It goes without saying that Cheryl is one of the most influential style icons in the UK and that is not without it’s reasons, one being that she can inspire glamour out of pretty much any outfit whatsoever by styling it the right way with a pair of stilettos, some killer shades and not forgetting an impossibly white and shiny set of teeth.

Ok, so if you’re like me and still working on the Hollywood smile then fear not. The trick to remember with Cheryl is that she is very loyal to her own style and definition and most off-duty looks that she adopts tend to have some sort of edge added to them. Therefore, take note of your overall look before you get ready, which I’m afraid must include some high heels a la Cheryl, and think where you can add the urban twist. You might want to think about a bold statement necklace, a flash of bright colour or even a unique logo on your chosen top to make you stand out. I wonder where I can find one of those… www.Les2Coquettes.com.
